Pyro: Part 1
A short story about rage... or something.
The most shocking thing about the facility to Marcel was how large it actually was. They'd been driving in from the outer gates for 3 minutes now. The high number of heavily armed guards almost lost their intimidation with how widely spread out they had to be. Marcel observed his surroundings vigilantly, so far not spotting any obvious weaknesses from this mysterious fortress. Along the road there was another much shorter wall. Beyond it he could make out a tall wire fence and what looked like dirt paths. Occasionally before the fences were little guard posts and small jeeps driving to and from God knows where, but nothing else among the woodland.
Eventually they approached another wall which stretched on to areas beyond his line of sight. The car paused as the gates opened and they were allowed in. The car parked. Marcel stared, some might even say glared at a man standing at the foot of the steps to a white building which the car was now parked in front of.
"It's time to go." The old man sat beside him declared. He got out of the limo in compliance with his uncle's orders.
"Listen, Marcellus." His uncle rolled down the window to speak to him discretely. "In 6 months you will turn 18 and be expected to face trial for what you've done. I do not need to stress how heavily your time spent here will impact the decision of the judge?"
"No sir."
"Good. I'll be back to visit in a month to check on your progress. I expect to hear good things."
"Yes, sir."
The window glass went back up without a good bye. Momentarily Marcel stared at his reflection in the tinted glass. He tried to relax his furrowed eyebrows to present a more pleasant expression but found it almost painful to do so. With a sigh he turned to his chauffeur who had already placed his suitcase on the ground in front of him.
"I'm so sorry, Marcel."
"Why are you apologizing, Raj? There's nothing you could've done for me."
Raj sighed as well, extending his hand for a shake. Marcel took it and shook firmly. He almost yelped when he was suddenly pulled into a tight hug. Raj had really been a good friend and almost like an older cousin to him, especially after his family was torn apart. He had been hired to drive Marcel to school and other events but, out of lack of anyone else to talk to, he'd become so much more over the last 7 years. In that brief moment, as Marcel squeezed his friend back, he actually felt like he was about to lose something important today.
"I'll be the first person to come see you when you get out. Believe it." Raj broke them apart and ruffled Marcel's black curly top. "Don't lose yourself. I know you're a good kid."
The smile Marcel unknowingly held on his face dropped.
"...Am I?"
Before Raj could respond the car window slightly came down.
"I am a busy man, you know." The window clicked back up again.
"You'd better go. Patience isn't what Uncle Harold is known for."
Raj nodded. With one last pat on the shoulder and a whisper of goodbye, he hopped back into the drivers seat. Within a minute the limo was gone.
With steely resolve, Marcel turned his attention to the white mansion before him and the smiling man staring at him expectantly.
"You must be Mr. Challenger." Marcel 'greeted' as he rolled up to the, still smiling, adult.
"Yes, Welcome to my institute Marcellus Cordelia."
